How I Work with Children
With over 30 years of experience working with children, young people, and families, I bring a calm, thoughtful approach to child therapy. My background spans a wide range of settings including education, residential care, youth justice, and social work. I’ve also supported and supervised both foster carers and supervising social workers.
This depth of experience helps me to quickly build trust with children and tailor the support they need — whether they’re struggling with big feelings, tricky behaviours, or difficult life events.
Where I See Children:
- In person in my calm and safe caravan room in PO8
- Online via Zoom
- At school, by arrangement
- In your home, if appropriate
What Sessions Are Like:
- Sessions are child-led – we follow your child’s pace and needs
- I use a mix of approaches to support expression and understanding:
- Talking
- Drawing
- Sandtray play
- Other creative or play-based methods, depending on what works best for your child
Supporting Your Child Beyond the Session:
- I can advocate for your child if extra support or guidance is needed to help their school better understand or meet their needs
Confidentiality:
- All sessions are confidential
- I don’t share session content unless there are safeguarding concerns, which I will always manage appropriately
- I advise not asking your child about their therapy sessions, so they feel free to talk about whatever they need without pressure
Parent Involvement:
- You may be invited to join the first part of the first session so I can gather background information
- After that, sessions are held one-to-one with your child
Above all, my aim is to provide a safe, trusted space where your child can explore, heal, and grow.
